How I Coach
I aim to create an alliance with my client, with the aim of achieving, and even exceeding, agreed-upon goals. This alliance should be based on trust and active participation, in which we are both equal partners in a shared vision. By this I mean; I, as coach, am not to be viewed as the "expert", who simply instills into the client the necessary wisdom and knowledge they need to move forward, and in which the client passively just absorbs this information. Rather, I aim to build a successful collaboration with my client, in which we both actively work together in coming up with optimal strategies in achieving certain ambitions. This is a path we are both very much invested in together.
Ultimately it is the client who is the expert on themselves, because it is they who know themselves the best. With this in mind, I will never tell the client what I think they should or should not do. Rather, I will facilitate the appropriate circumstances and ambiance so that the client may discover for themself what the best course of action should be.
I work primarily, but not exclusively, from the Co-Active model of coaching, while bringing in and utilizing other core principles and techniques from my training as a life coach, particularly centered around a person's value system. This will be the general basis from where our work together will stem from. Having also been trained in other methods and techniques from my time working as a psychotherapist and addiction counsellor, I may also bring in elements from other methodologies such as Glasarian Control Theory/Reality Therapy, CBT, and Motivational Interviewing, if I feel this may support and enrich the coaching process for a client. Because each client and presenting issue will be unique, I will adapt to each session accordingly by drawing from my extensive training and experiences in various disciplines.
